About Otahuhu:
Housing
Otahuhu’s one of the oldest suburbs in Auckland. And up until the late 60s the township was characterized by villas, bungalows, and Peglar homes. Since then units, townhouses, and more recently newer homes have been constructed. But Otahuhu still has many original homesteads with immense potential for renovation. And some of the properties on Otahuhu’s coastline have riparian rights.
Sports and Recreation
Otahuhu’s blessed with large parkland areas including Mt. Richmond, Sturgess Park, and Seaside Park with a coastal walkway. So there’s plenty of room for the football codes, tennis club, badminton club, softball club and sea scouts. And the fitness gym in the new Rec Centre (which also organizes basketball games) helps keep athletes fit. The Rec Centre also has contact with the 3 primary schools, intermediate school, and 4 colleges (including Kings College and De La Salle College).
Employment
Otahuhu has 1000 plus businesses that in themselves employ over 7000 people. Otahuhu also benefits from sitting right in the heart of significant employment opportunities: Highbrook Business Park on the east, Savil Link Park (services the Logistics industry) on the west, Sylvia Park in the North, and Manukau City Mall in the south. So Otahuhu has many natural advantages including central location, easy motorway access, and landholdings ripe for development.
Otahuhu's Future
Otahuhu has been publicly identified by the Auckland City Council as a growth centre opportunity. Central location, gentrification, zone changes, more diverse retail mix, maintaining a village appeal, railway station upgrade have all been discussed. And after many submissions the aspiration for Otahuhu’s future has now been fully passed by Auckland City Council. So it’s now a credible document. And you should read it. Because up until now Otahuhu’s been a sleeping giant. And the times coming to wake up.

If you’re looking for low-cost goods, visit Otahuhu. It’s probably the lowest price shopping centre in New Zealand. It’s different. It’s colourful. It’s ethnic. And the prices always surprise. You’ll find clothing, travel bags, bling bling, and other assorted goods all along Otahuhu’s main street.

Ethnic restaurants and other eateries can be found in the side streets and Atkinson Avenue. If coffees your choice, you can sit and enjoy it either at the bottom of town, by the round-about, or near the bus stop.
