Chatswood began it's development about 30 years ago as an exclusive Estate of approximately 1000 houses built to strict convernants in order to ensure quality construction and that it remained 100% residential. Located just west of the Birkenhead Shopping Centre (Highbury), and overlooking the Chelsea Sugar Refinery, Chatswood is a mere 10 minute drive or ferry ride into Central Auckland. Many of the properties offer superb City and Harbour views. Recreational opportunities in the area are excellent. Kauri Point Centennial Park provides wonderful bush walks that lead down to the harbour's edge, and some super fishing spots. There is also good swimming at Kendalls Beach. The adjacent schools and colleges are popular with the locals. With only 3 entrances into Chatswood, residents feel the estate offers a feeling of security and tranquility.
