About Waiake:
A couple of local events say it all - the African Street Festival and Best of British Day! South Africans and Brits love the East Coast Bays, with many opting to settle in Waiake and the surrounding areas after leaving their home countries. The schooling, the kinship and the holiday style living are key reasons why this are is so popular.
While the community demographic shows a wide range of ages, Waiake is particularly popular with families. Local high school Long Bay College, is nationally known for its creative arts and technology teaching. It's much smaller than Rangitoto College, another Bays college and New Zealand’s largest high school, but that appeals to many parents, keen for their children to get what they see as more personalised schooling.
All the beaches in the area are beautiful, but many say Waiake beach is the best. It's 1ha beachfront reserve is lined with impressive phoenix palms and Norfolk pines, and is home to the Torbay Sailing Club.
