About Henderson:
Henderson town is found nestled below the Waitakere ranges in the heart of Waitakere City. The main center is a hub of activity with the West City Shopping Mall, New Civic Centre and Waitakere Central Transport Centre for both buses and Trains – a hub around which most of Waitakere City revolves.
Also found in central Henderson is the historic building now known as “The Falls Restaurant – Café – Gallery” a “Historic Jewel in Waitakere City’s crown”; a stroll across the bridge from the falls over the Oratia Stream is the Henderson Library and West Wave Aquatic and Fitness Centre purpose built for the 1990 Commonwealth Games.
Not only is there a large central township but the surrounding parts of Henderson are also extensive and well serviced. Lincoln Road is also a center with itself with the new largest Pak n Save in New Zealand and also one of the largest Mega Mitre 10’s in New Zealand with a lovely cafe inside.
Following West Auckland’s original high school Henderson High there are now many more great schools in Henderson including but not limited to Henderson Primary School, Henderson Intermediate, Holly Cross School, Waitakere College, Liston College, St Dominic’s College.
The Henderson soils are also well renowned for producing premium grapes for the community of around 20 winemakers producing great Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinotage. A mere 20 – 30 minutes drive away are the beautiful West Coast beaches of Kare Kare, Anawhata and Piha a popular location for Kiwi Christmas Celebrations.
Henderson not only has all the conveniences of a city center but also the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of a small town. Henderson is a supreme location within Waitakere City.
