About Levin:

With a population of 16,000, Levin is the largest town in the Horowhenua district.
It’s nestled beneath the magnificent Tararua Ranges at the junction of State Highway One and 57.

The main street is bordered by plane trees, and flower beds are dotted around the town. It has its own library and many touches of beauty including Historic Thompson House which is situated in the botanic gardens and serves as the town’s cultural centre.

The temperate climate and fertile soil make it the natural garden of the lower North Island with many orchards, berry farms and market gardens. Road-side stalls provide a variety of fresh, locally grown produce…perfect for travellers on State Highway One or 57.

Levin is chocka-bloc with activities for young and old –from the “soon-to-be world-famous” Adventure Playground on State Highway One, Tennis, Golf, Squash, Rugby, Hockey, Rowing and Yachting on the scenic Lake Horowhenua or fishing/beach recreation at the ever-popular Waitarere Beach…to name but a few.

Levin’s educational opportunities are rich with a number of primary schools feeding the local intermediate, Waiopehu College and Horowhenua College.

Levin has a range of cafes, takeaways that service hungry travellers "just recharging the batteries enroute" or locals wanting a more leisurely experience whether its a drive through at KFC/McDonalds, a sitdown lunch at the Murrayfield Cafe, RSA, Cosmopolitan Club or one of the many cafes or licensed bars like the Loaded Hog - All within 5 minute radius. For the more adventurous a quick drive to Shannon, Otaki, Foxton or Palmerston North opens up a significant range of dining experiences.
