About Stoke:
Stoke is located half way between Nelson & Richmond. On account of that, it's popular with families who want to be central. There is a great collection of schools in the suburb like Nayland College for example.
The Railway Reserve is a feature of the suburb and it joins a total of over 25kms of walking and cycling tracks that the council has developed in the area.
In recent years many new subdividsions have sprung up, offering home buyers new homes to compliment the traditional style popular here. Work has just commenced on a proposed 500 lot subdivision in Marsden Valley so the area will soon be welcoming a lot more people.
Stoke Shopping:
Daily staples can be purchased from two main supermarkets, but there are plenty of corner shops in the area too.The main shopping centre is near Isel Park and the local sports grounds and bowling club, next to the tennis courts. There is a Westpac branch located in Stoke, and a Post Shop. There are cafes, and a choice of Hotels like The Turf and The Honest Lawyer.
Transport:
Public Transport is provided for by bus, as the last trains stopped going through Stoke in the 1950's. Regular services to Nelson and Richmond allow easy access to all of Nelson.Many people bike to work as its just a short cycle. Taxis are also found in most parts of the shopping centre area and a pick-up post phone is also available.

Many cafes and restaurants are scattered throughout the area, and even those in neighbouring suburbs are only 5-10 minutes drive away at most. Takeaway bars and national franchise fast food operators take their place beside the local fish & chip shops here too.
