About Upper Moutere:
Upper Moutere was first settled in 1843 with wheat, oats, hops and tobacco being developed by early settlers. Known by the German name of Sarau by those pioneers, it's now home to artists, winemakers, farmers and others keen to maintain its heritage and beauty. A recently completed community sports centre has put Upper Moutere firmly on the map, as a servicer of the local communities of Dovedale, Ngatimoti, Mahana and even coastal Mapua.
It's a 30 minute drive to Nelson and it takes just 20 minutes to the thriving shopping centre of Motueka. It's a great place to move to.

The village shop caters for just about all your daily needs. Sefton and Chris will ensure a hearty welcome is received by all newcomers - and they serve the most brilliant coffee and cakes too!
Eating Out:
Wineries, wineries and wineries - especially in the summer. Also cafes, pubs, some fantastic micro-breweries (Mapua, Upper Moutere) and of course the wondeful Monterey House cafe in Ngatimoti.
