About Broad Bay:
Broad Bay is thirteen kilometres East of Dunedin City, on the Otago Coast of Otago Peninsula. A warm and friendly family based community with a strong emphasis on local ties, and the Broad Bay school. Beautiful surroundings encourage outdoor enthusiasts to settle in this area. Broad bay is located half way between Dunedin, and the Royal Albatross and Yellow Eyed Penguin Colonies. Also, a short drive away is Larnach Castle. New Zealand's only castle built in 1871. The magnificent grounds are well worth a visit. The Camp Road walking track connects Broad Bay to Larnach Castle. Broad Bay is also home to the heritage listed Fletcher House. Constructed in 1909 and restored in 1992, the first house of Fletcher Construction founder Sir James Fletcher.
Like several settlements on the peninsula - including Portobello and Macandrew Bay, which lies 3 kilometres to the southwest - Broad Bay is a commuter settlement and a haven for alternative lifestylers. These settlements have a strong arts community, with many of their residents connected in some way with the visual or performing arts.
