About the Hamilton East Community
About Hamilton East:
The suburb of Hamilton East is positioned on the banks of the Waikato River and is within walking distance of the CBD of Hamilton and also the Campus of the Waikato University.
To the north of the suburb is the Claudelands reserve and Show Building Complex. On it's western side is the Waikato River and to the South are the beautiful council developed Hamilton Gardens(well worth a visit). The suburb of Hillcrest and the University are located to the East.
The heart of Hamilton East is 'The Village' and 'The Village Green'.
The Village comprises a wonderful shopping and recreational area with a variety of retail shops, banks, cafes, bars and restaurants. The Village Green, also known as Steele Park, is a large field surrounded by beautiful trees where the locals can enjoy cricket on Sunday afternoon or the pleasure of walking their dogs and playing with their children.
Being an older more established area of Hamilton there is a mixture of older and newer homes. There has been quite a lot of infill development in the suburb where the original 1/4 acre sections have been divided and rental accommodation has been established. Bordering the river is an area first developed by the State which the locals call Hayes Paddock. Because of the convenience of being so close to town this area has become very sought after and a lot of the original State houses have been renovated. The area is now subject to a heritage protection order.
Schools in the area include Hamilton East Primary, Patricia Avenue, Marion School, Peachgrove Intermediate, Hamilton Boys High School and Sacred heart College.
Hamilton East Shopping:
'The Village' should meet your every shopping need. Otherwise, it's just a short walk into the CBD of Hamilton. There are two huge supermarkets for groceries only minutes away across the Bridge Street bridge.
Transport:
The Urban Bus service and the City Orbiter adequately connect Hamilton East to the rest of the city. Residents of this suburb are fortunate in that they can easily walk into the CBD if they wish. The cost of a taxi ride to and from the suburb is also small because of its proximity to the city.
